Биография

Arthur Tell Schwab was the father of Fritz Schwab. Arthur was a native German with Swiss citizenship who coached the German national race walkers in Berlin. He left Germany during World War in 1945, attempting to move to Switzerland, but on the train transport with the International Red Cross, Schwab was killed near Heilbronn during a heavy air raid on the train.

In his active career Schwab started for Switzerland at the 1924 Paris Olympics and placed fifth at 10 km. In 1932 at Los Angeles he did not finish the 50 km, but in 1936 at Berlin he won a silver medal in the 50 km. Schwab also set eight world records at different distances. The Nazi regime tried to convince him to start for Germany but he always refused.

Personal Bests: 10kmW – 46:02.0 (1936); 50kmW – 4-31:32 (1935).
