Leander Paes made history by winning the 2015 US Open mixed double title with Martina Hingis. Leander Paes, who has been to the US Open more than any other Indian tennis player, was 40 when he claimed his third doubles title at Flushing Meadows in 2013 with Radek Stepanek. Paes, who suffered a broken nose in the second round after a ball hit him in the face, had won the 2006 and 2009 editions as well.
Coming into the 2015 US Open as the top seeds, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis did not lose a set throughout the fortnight for their second Grand Slam title of the season. Sania became the first Indian woman to win the women's doubles title at the US Open. “Being a woman and being the first one to be able to achieve everything is amazing for, not just for Indian women, but for Indian sports,” said Mirza.
Sania Mirza captured her third Grand Slam mixed doubles at he US Open in 2014. Partnering Bruno Soares of Brazil, the two were the top seed of the tournament and were playing together as a pair for the first time. Her previous two titles were with Mahesh Bhupathi, making the US Open triumph a first with a non-Indian partner.
The Indo-Pak duo of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, seeded 16th, was on a roll at the 2010 US Open before falling to top-seeded Bryan brothers in the final. They might not have won a title but the duo sent a message that sport can help dissolve boundaries. "What these guys are doing, bringing India and Pakistan together, is very special. It shows that sport can bring people together," Mike Bryan affirmed.
Considered to be one of India’s best singles players in the recent past, Somdev Devvarman’s best show at the Flushing Meadows came in 2009 and 2013 when he managed to reach the second round of the US Open.
Unseeded in the tournament, Mahesh Bhupathi and Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova lifted the US Open mixed doubles trophy in 2005. It was the Indian tennis star’s second mixed doubles title after his triumph in 1999 and his fifth mixed doubles Grand Slam at the time, incidentally each with a different partner.

Ramesh Krishnan was one of the most successful Indian tennis players at the US Open, having reached the quarter-finals of the competition in 1981 and 1987 Admired for his touch, anticipation and all-round game, the Chennai-born was one of the finest tennis players in the country who played a key role in leading India to the Davis Cup final in 1987.
Championing India’s cause at the international stage, Vijay Amritraj too had quality time at the US Open, having reached the quarter-finals in 1973 and 1974. Amritraj beat the 11-time Grand Slam champion, Björn Borg, in the second round in the US Open in 1974 before losing to Rosewall in quarter-finals.
