German swimmer Willy Lützow won the silver medal in the 200 breaststroke at the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. He did not finish the final of the 400 breaststroke. He competed for Magdeburg 1896, and was a member of the Stuttgart fraterniry Ghibellinia, which was known for its dueling. Lützow went missing in action on 31 October 1915 when he, as a lieutenant, was part of a military engineering company in the battle of Tahure, Champagne.
