Biografia

Robert Stangland of Columbia University won the 1904 IC4A long jump at 23-6½ (7.17), but he failed to repeat this form at the Olympics later in the season. In St. Louis he placed third in the long jump with a modest effort of 22-7 (6.88) and he placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 43-10 (13.36). While at Columbia, in addition to track he played football and rowed varsity crew. He made his career as a consulting engineer. Stangland was forced to retire from athletics on the advise of his physician, who found him to have an enlarged heart.
