Purvis MCDOUGALL

Purvis McDougall was selected to represent Canada in the four-man bobsleigh at the 1964 Winter Olympics, but had to withdraw due to injury. He attended the World Championships the following year and placed eighth in the two-man (with 1964 gold medalist John Emery) and 11th in the four-man (alongside Monty Gordon, D'Arcy Coulson and the non-Olympian Paul Levesque); the four-man title was won by 1964 veterans Vic Emery and Peter Kirby, with Michael Young and non-Olympian Terry Presley. McDougall also competed in the 1965 World Luge Championships, placing 65th among 87 entrants in the singles. The following year McDougall teamed up with Gordon, Levesque, and Bob Storey to compete at the 1966 World Championships in bobsleigh, but the event was cancelled following the death of German competitor Toni Pensperger. In 1967 he paired with Andrew Faulds for the two-man at the World Championships, finishing 15th.

McDougall finally reached the Olympic Games in 1968, where he was 19th in the two-man (with Storey) and 17th in the four-man (alongside Storey, Young, and Faulds). The following year he was 13th, with non-Olympian Peter Blakely, in the two-man bobsleigh event at the World Championships. He retired from active competition shortly thereafter.
