Biografia

Max Leichter was a West German wrestler who competed in the light-heavyweight and heavyweight class. He participated in both styles at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. In the Greco-Roman style he was eliminated early but in the freestyle competition he was placed seventh. In 1951 he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the freestyle light-heavyweight class. In 1953 he was eighth in the Greco-Roman style, and was fifth in the freestyle heavyweight class in 1954. Leichter won three (West) German Greco-Roman titles in 1939 and 1948-49 (light-heavyweight), the two freestyle titles in 1950 (heavyweight) and 1953 (light-heavyweight).

After World War II Leichter trained as a policeman, but later owned a very well-known pub in Frankfurt, where he and his fiancé Gretel were actively involved in organizing carnivals in the city, and both became known as the ‘Carnival Couple’ in the 1950s.
