Biografia

East German Greco-Roman wrestler Lothar Metz participated in four consecutive Olympic Games, in 1960 and 1964 with the mixed German team, and in 1968 and 1972 for East Germany. He won a medal of each color, silver in 1960, bronze in 1964, and gold finally in 1968 in the middleweight category. In 1972 he was eliminated in the third round in the light-heavyweight category.

Domestically he won the East German middleweight national titles in 1959-61, 1963, 1965-68 and the light heavyweight ones in 1971 and 1973. He also had several international successes: third at the 1958 and 1971 World Championships, fifth at the 1961 World Championships, second at the 1967 and 1970 European Championships, and fourth at the 1966 European Championships. Metz later became a youth coach in Rostock.
