Biografia

Gerry Brady first came to prominence as a sportsman whilst completing his medical studies at Blackrock College in Dublin and narrowly missed a place on the Irish swimming team for the 1948 London Olympics. After qualifying as a surgeon in 1949, Brady worked at hospitals in London and Liverpool before returning home to Ireland to take a post at the newly opened Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin. He combined his 37 year surgical career with a long period as one of Ireland’s leading clay pigeon shooters. Brady was already in his forties when he made his Olympic debut in the skeet event in Munich in 1972 but still returned four years later in Montreal although this time he represented his country as a trap shooter. He was president of the Irish-American Orthopaedic Association in 1979.
