Biografia

Erwin Blask was born as the 10th child of an Imperial Guard soldier. He later became a sergeant in the Wehrbezirks-Kommando Berlinin , director of the German Police Sports Board in the Technical Committee for Police Pentathlon (1949-59) and Athletics (1959-70), and headed the third Frankfurt Police Station from 1960-70. In his youth he was known as an avid football, table tennis and handball player.

Hammer thrower Blask also won the silver medal at the 1938 European Championships as he did at the 1936 Olympics. He also collected several national titles, in the stone throw (1933-34) and the hammer throw (1935, 1939-40, 1950-51), adding the national police title in the 1929 javelin throw. He also set two world records in the hammer throw in 1938 and another two in the stone throw in 1933, and bettered the German record seven times. Blask later married sprinter Dora Voigt (1920-2003), the sister of Harry Voigt, who won a bronze in the 4×400 m relay at the Berlin Olympics 1936.
