Emil Schöpflin was one of four German road cyclists participating in the first ever mass start of the Olympic road race at Berlin in 1936 but it is unknown whether he finished the race or not. Schöpflin turned professional in 1946 and retired in 1949. In 1931 as an amateur he was runner-up in the German Road Championships, and as a professional in 1947 was runner-up again, but this time, at the German Track Championships.
