Ben Shelton has been touted as the future of American men's tennis with his exploits in a standout 2023 season leaving an imprint on the sport in the present.
At the 2023 Australian Open, Shelton came from seemingly nowhere to reach the quarter-finals with wins over the likes of Nicolás Jarry and Alexei Popyrin. Although he was eventually defeated by fellow American Tommy Paul in the last eight, he had well and truly announced his arrival on the big stage.
Shelton went even further at the 2023 US Open, where he reached his first Slam semifinal. He went out to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets but his run saw him break into the top 20 of the world rankings.
Then in October, he clinched his first ATP Tour title at the Japan Open, a 500 event, in Tokyo by beating Aslan Karatsev in the final. And at April's U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, he defeated Francis Tiafoe to claim his second tour triumph.
