Biografia

Aleksey Kasatonov began playing hockey with SKA Leningrad in 1976, joining CSKA Moskva in 1978 and playing there until 1990. With CSKA Moskva he won eleven Soviet titles (1979-89) and twelve European Champions Cup titles (1979-90) in a row. From 1990-96 Kasatonov played five seasons in the NHL, with a short spell with CSKA Moskva in 1994. He played with the New Jersey Devils (1990-93), Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and St. Louis Blues in 1994, and the Boston Bruins from 1994-96, playing in the 1994 NHL All-Star Game. Kasatonov finished his playing career in 1996-97 with CSKA Moskva. Internationally Kasatonov played in three Soviet Olympic teams, winning golds in 1984 and 1988 and silver in 1980. He also won five World Championships (1981-83, 1986, 1989) and eight European Championships (1981-83, 1985-87, 1989, 1991), winning silver at the 1987 World Championships and bronzes at the 1985 and 1991 World Championships. He was selected as the best defenseman at the 1983 World Championships. At the Canada Cup, he was on the winning team in 1981, was second in 1987, third in 1984, and fifth in 1991. After his sporting career Kasatonov worked as a coach with Krylya Sovetov Moskva.
