Talk with Naoki Urasawa

Want to hear more about the history of sports manga from one of the most influential mangaka of his generation? That’s exactly what we are arranging for you in this exceptional talk with Naoki Urasawa, the renowned mangaka who made his name in the history of sports manga with “Yawara!” This memorable story foreshadowed the inclusion of women’s judo in the Games and became a global success that got Urasawa known world-wide. For this reason it features in our Sport x Manga exhibition, which you can visit free of charge at The Olympic Museum in Lausanne until 21 November 2021.

Accompanied by exhibition curator Stéphane Beaujean, Urasawa will share with us his vision of sports manga, from its origins to the place it still holds today in Japan’s creative imagination. He will also tell us why he thinks that sport, as a subject for manga, has proved so successful in his home country.

To make this accessible to as many people as possible, in French-speaking countries as well as Japan, the talk will be online in French as well as Japanese thanks to Mrs Shoko Takahashi, the Japan coordinator for the exhibition, who will provide the necessary interpretation.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!

Follow the talk live, at 2 p.m. on Saturday 12 June, on The Olympic Museum’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC667uznIP7FQTshhhefPfnA
