What is the À la Croisée des Jeux podcast?

The Olympic Museum has released its first podcast series: À la Croisée des Jeux (At the Crossroads of the Games).

À la Croisée des Jeux, the series that brings sport and culture together, exploring the influence of the Olympic Games on you, on us, on our imaginations and on society, produced by The Olympic Museum.

Season 3

Episode 1: À la Croisée des Jeux / Julien Glauser: Skateboarding in the city

As part of the "Riding the Olympic Wave" exhibition, the first podcast of season 3 takes a look at one of the new sports on the Olympic programme, skateboarding, and its relationship with the urban environment. Julien Glauser, social anthropologist, urbanologist and long-time skateboarder, talks to the Olympic Museum.

Episode 1: À la Croisée des Jeux / Eric Fournier et Laure Decomble: Chamonix 1924

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the first podcast of season 2 takes a look at the history of the Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924. The Olympic Museum hosts Cultural Projects Manager Mrs Laure Decomble, and Mr Eric Fournier, the Mayor of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, who tell us all about these Games.

  

 

 

Episode 2 : À la Croisée des Jeux / Ann Duffy: Sustainability at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

 

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the Olympic Museum hosts Mrs Ann Duffy, Chief Sustainability Officer for the 2010 Games in Vancouver, to talk about these Games.

  

  

 

Episode 3 : À la Croisée des Jeux / Jean-Loup Chappelet: History and challenges of the Winter Olympic host cities

 

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the third podcast of season 2 welcomes Mr Jean-Loup Chappelet, Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne and IDHEAP, to talk about the history of the cities that have hosted the Winter Games, and the challenges facing them today and in the near future.

The Olympic Museum chats to Stéphane Beaujean, the Curator of the Sport X Manga exhibition. Stéphane provides an introduction to sports manga, the values associated with it and the impact it has had on sports practice in Japan.

The Olympic Museum continues its conversation with Stéphane Beaujean. Stéphane discusses how manga went from being a national phenomenon to a global one, and talks about the sports manga boom and the crossover between the Olympic Games and manga.




Episode 3: À la Croisée des Jeux/Georges Baumgartner: Tokyo and the Olympic Games: history and challenges (1/3)

The Olympic Museum speaks to Georges Baumgartner, an extremely well-known figure in French-speaking Switzerland, for his personal take on Tokyo 2020 and the challenges of staging the Games in a pandemic.

The Japan of Tokyo 2020 looks nothing like the country that hosted the first Olympic Games to be held in Asia, 57 years ago. Tokyo, chosen to stage this international event, was to symbolise the country’s renewal. Let’s hear about what the Japanese capital was like in 1964, in the company of Georges Baumgartner.

The relationship between Japan and the Olympic Games goes back a long way, and began with one sport in particular: judo. It was with this martial art that Japan made its name on the international sporting stage. In this third episode in the company of Georges Baumgartner, we take a look at sport in Japan and its history by examining the strong link between judo and the Games.
