100 YEARS TOGETHER…The IOC and Lausanne

10 April - 15 October 2015

Hand in hand, the International Olympic Committee and the city of Lausanne are celebrating their 100th anniversary. This union was consecrated by an official act on 10 April 1915.

An anniversary commemorated in various places

On the Helvétie boat

To retrace the contours of this relationship bound together over time, The Olympic Museum is stepping aboard the Helvétie boat, anchored off the Ouchy lakeshore, at the foot of the Olympic Park. The exhibition presented here uses the metaphor of the couple, and the focus is on fun.

Archives, photos from various eras, press articles, caricatures have been set up to illustrate the life of this couple and show how, through passionate episodes, short-lived squabbles and shared desires, Lausanne became the Olympic Capital in 1993.

This title and the presence of the IOC has led to the arrival of sports federations, the creation of university courses linked to sport, and urban development - international prestige with the economic impact that goes with it. And this shared adventure will continue to develop, as proved by the many large future projects being taken on today by these two centennial partners.

In the city

This commemoration will also be held at five symbolic locations in Lausanne: the Casino de Montbenon, the Villa Mon-Repos, the IOC headquarters in Vidy, the House of International Sport at Rhodanie and Lausanne railway station… an arrangement that invites the people of Lausanne and visitors to take a walk and find out more!
Also, on the Ouchy lakeside, there is a route along which 38 centenary-themed photos are on display.

Programme of celebrations

Celebrations mean events, encounters, discoveries, laughter, games and challenges! As a result, in addition to the exhibition and the route through the city, the IOC Centenary in Lausanne is also:

A fun run through Lausanne on Friday 26 June

A weekend of free events at The Olympic Museum and the various emblematic locations on 27 and 28 June, with a mixture of sports try-outs, timed sprints, music, etc.
