경력

A four-time Olympian (1992-2000), Steve Giles won the bronze medal in the C-1 1000m at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, and had impressive top-10 finishes in all other Olympic appearances.

A long-time member of the Canadian national team over the course of 15 years, Giles also competed in 11 senior world championships, winning gold in 1998 (C-1 1000m), and a pair of bronzes in 1993 (C-1 500m) and 2002 (C-1 1000m).

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Giles began canoeing at eight years of age at the Orenda Racking Canoe Club in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia. He retired from canoeing in 2004 and was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 2012.

Giles not only earned Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering degrees from Dalhousie University, as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws, in 2001, he obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Saint Mary's University. Married in 1997, he and his wife Angele have two children.
