경력

While at Wichita State, Preston Carrington twice placed in the NCAA long jump – third in 1970 and sixth in 1971. He was a useful hurdler and all-round jumper. He qualified for the 1972 Olympic team with a third-place at the Final Trials. At the Olympics, he was second in the qualifying with a mark which would have won the silver medal (his PR), but could not duplicate that in the final. Carrington was an all-state high school basketball player, and played hoops at Wichita State, as he had at Butler Community College.

After his athletic career, Carrington changed his name to Syed Abdul Mutfi. He did some coaching but began work as a respiratory therapist, his career for over 30 years. Carrington / Mutfi is a member of the Topeka Shawnee Hall of Fame and the Wichita State Sports Hall of Fame.
