경력

Sprinter Martin Jellinghaus placed fifth in the 400 and won a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay, where the German team set a European record at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. Four years later in München he came in seventh in the 200. With the 4x400 relay he also won a bronze medal at the 1969 European Championships and a gold medal in 1971. Domestically Jellinghaus won nine West German titles in the 200, 400, and both relays.

At the 1969 European Championships Jellinghaus was the outspoken leader of the West German team concerning the West German boycott. When former GDR-runner Jürgen May was nominated for these Championships for the West German team, former GDR officials successfully protested against his nomination, which led to the West German boycott, and the team eventually only participated in the relays. Jellinghaus studied dentistry and later practiced as a dentist in his hometown Nuremberg. In 1968, he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf.

Personal Bests: 200 – 20.65 (1972); 400 – 45.06 (1968).
