Keith Gardner had the following podium finishes at major championships: 3rd in the 1960 Olympics 4×400 metres Relay; 1st in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 120 yards Hurdles, 1st in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 100 yards, 1st in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 120 yards Hurdles, 2nd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 220 yards, 3rd in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×440 yards Relay (with George Kerr, Mal Spence, and the non-Olympian Gerald James); 2nd in the 1955 Pan American Games 110 metres Hurdles, 2nd in the 1955 Pan American Games 4×400 metres relay (with Mel Spence and the non-Olympians Moore and Stick).
In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards relay (with Les Laing and the non-Olympians Frank Hall and Ronald Horshamn) as well as in the 4×440 yards relay (with Les Laing, Richard Estick, and the non-Olympian Louis Gooden) Gardner finished sixth. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games long jump he finished ninth. In the 1955 Pan American Games he finished fourth in the 100 metres. In all British Empire and Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games he competed for Jamaica.
