경력

East German hammer thrower Jochen Sachse first came to prominence at the 1969 European Championships, finishing fifth, and one year later winning the Summer Universiade. After a seventh place in 1971, he claimed the silver medal in 1974 and finished ninth at the 1978 Europeans. At the Olympics he won a silver medal at the 1972 München Games and came in sixth four years later in Montréal. He was also a four-time East German Champion in 1971-72 and 1975-76.

Many documents on doping in the former GDR became public after reunification, and Sachse’s name was in the list of athletes given PEDs. From 1978 to German reunification he worked as a trainer in his home club of SC Karl-Marx-Stadt and then was employed at an adult job training center. He was educated as a thermal engineer and was married to non-Olympian high jumper Barbara Dürrschmidt.

Personal Best: HT – 76.44 (1977).
