Eduard Ivanov began playing hockey with Khimik Voskrosensk in 1955, joining Krylya Sovetov Moskva in 1957, and playing there until in 1962, when he joined CSKA Moskva. With CSKA Moskva Ivanov won four Soviet titles (1963-66). Ivanov ended his playing career with SKA Moskva Oblast from 1967-70. Internationally besides his Olympic gold, Ivanov was a World and European Champion four times (1963-64 and 1967) and won silver at the 1961 European Championships and bronze at the 1961 World Championships. At the 1964 Olympic Games he was also named the best forward of the tournament. After his competitive career Ivanov worked as a coach with SKA Moskva Oblast and from 1979-88 worked as a director of CSKA Moskva sports school.
