Edith Zimmermann won the 1960 Austrian Junior Championship in combined, and in 1961 was named to the Austrian A-team. In the pre-World Cup era she won several FIS races in 1961-63, with her biggest moment coming in Innsbruck at the 1964 Winter Olympics when she took a silver medal in downhill. With fifth in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom at Innsbruck, Zimmermann also added a World Championship silver medal in combined, which was not an Olympic event in 1964. Zimmermann was Austrian Champion in slalom and combined in 1965. She retired after the 1966 season and later worked as a carpenter.
