Fourth place at the Olympic Trials earned Ed Ablowich, the 19-year-old from Southern Cal, a place on the Olympic relay team. He ran a creditable second leg of 47.6 when hard pressed by Tom Hampson (GBR), the newly crowned 800 meter champion. Ablowich also finished second in the 1934 AAU 400 m hurdles. He later became an associate professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wyoming University. His son, Ron, also a talented intermediate hurdler at Georgia Tech, ran in the 1960 Olympic Trials but failed to make the team for Rome.
