경력

Abrar Hussain Syed was one of Pakistan's leading amateur boxers. His greatest victory came at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, when he claimed the gold medal in the light middleweight division (-71 kg), having earned a bronze medal four years earlier. His three Olympic appearances were less successful, exiting in the preliminaries on each occasion, but in 1985, Hussain also won a gold medal in the South Asian Games.

Hussain, who later became a boxing coach and served on the sports board of his hometown Quetta, was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle. He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. There was no apparent motive for the murder, other than Hussain being a member of the minority Shia muslims, in a period of sectarian and religious violence in that area of Pakistan.
