バイオグラフィー

Pat Lovell attended Cal Poly San Luis Opisbo, where he played football for three years and wrestled for all four years. He won the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate heavyweight title from 1958-60. Lovell had 13 podium finishes in various national freestyle and Greco-Roman championships. Lovell later became known in the wrestling world both as a coach and an official. He started coaching at James Lick High School in San Jose, where he coached, among others, Jim Plunkett, later a quarterback star in the NFL. In college he played right tackle in football, alongside the left tackle John Madden, later an NFL coach for the Oakland Raiders and well-known as a television commentator on football telecasts. Lovell and Madden remained close friends throughout life.

Lovell then moved to Monta Vista High School and then Cabrillo Community College, where he coached both wrestling and football. He spent almost 30 years as the commissioner of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. Lovell officiated wrestling meets and tournaments for over 40 years, including officiating at 17 NCAA and 17 US National Championships. He was inducted into the US Wrestling Hall of Fame as an official. Lovell was also a member of the the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Cabrillo College Hall of Fame and the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame.
