Thomas Frischknecht, affectionally known as “Frischi”, has been among the very best mountain bikers for a good 15 years. In the early 90s, he was one of the top cross-country riders, winning three UCI Mountain Bike World Cups in that discipline (1992-93, 1995). At the World Championships he has won one gold medal (1996 – after the doping disqualification of Jérôme Chiotti), four silvers (1990-92, 2001) and two bronzes (2002, 2004). In addition, he claimed the Olympic silver medal at the Atlanta Games in 1996. In 2003 and 2005, Frischknecht was ranked first in the world in the marathon. Frischknecht has also competed in cyclo-cross, winning four Swiss titles, the 1988 junior world title, and the 1991 amateur World Championships.
