Sunday BADA

Sunday Bada was a top Nigerian one-lap runner in the 1990s. Bada competed at three Olympics, originally winning a silver medal in the 2000 4×400 relay, but his Nigerian team was moved up to a gold medal after the disqualification of the United States' team because of doping positives on two members (Jerome Young and Antonio Pettigrew). His biggest individual title was winning the 1997 World Indoor Championship over 400 metres, after having placed second in that event in 1993 and 1995. He twice made the finals at the World Athletics Championships in the 400, placing fifth in 1993 and eighth in 1997. At the 1997 World Championships, he helped Nigeria win a bronze medal in the 4×400. Bada also won the 1997 All-African Games 200 metres, the 1992 World Cup 400 metres, and won a bronze medal in the 400 at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. He was world-ranked eighth in 1993 and ninth in 1995 in the 400 metres. After his retirement from competition, he became technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
