バイオグラフィー

Sidney Abrahams was educated at Bedford Modern School and then Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He won his Cambridge blue in the long jump (1904-06) and the 100y (1906) and competed in both events at the 1906 Olympics. After winning the Midland long jump title in 1910 and 1911, Abrahams competed in the long jump at his second Olympics in 1912, and the following year was the AAA Champion. A distinguished lawyer he had a long career in the Colonial Legal Service from 1922-39 and held posts as Attorney General of Zanzibar, Uganda and the Gold Coast before appointments as the Chief Justice of Uganda, Tanganyika and Ceylon. After his retirement he was appointed to the Privy Council in 1941. He was knighted in the 1936 New Year’s Honours list and served as the President of the London AC (1947-48). He was the older brother of Harold Abrahams, the 1924 Olympic 100m champion, and another brother, Sir Adolphe Abrahams served as a medical officer in charge of several British athletic teams.
