Roger François DUCRET

At the 1924 Olympics, Roger Ducret managed to win Olympic medals in all five events that he entered (there were six on the programme), including three gold medals (individual foil, team foil, team épée) and two silvers (individual épée and sabre). This feat has only ever been surpassed by Nedo Nadi, who also won five medals in three weapons at the 1920 Olympics, but all of them gold. Ducret also medalled at the Antwerp Games (one silver, one bronze), and at the 1928 Olympics (one silver), earning him a total of eight medals – the highest of any French Olympian, although he shares the record with Philippe Cattiau. By contrast, Ducret's international championship record is otherwsie rather bleak, earning only a single bronze medal at the 1923 European Championships (forerunner of the World Championships), although it should be pointed out that team events weren't held until after Ducret's retirement. Ducret won a total of 15 French titles, the first of them coming before World War I, during which he was held prisoner of war. Outside of fencing, Roger Ducret was a journalist, working for Le Figaro and L'Echo des Sports among others.
