Robert Tikkanen was the son of art historian Johan Jakob and grandson of Paavo Tikkanen, who founded the first major newspaper in the Finnish language. Robert’s son Henrik was a famous writer and illustrator, who was married to Märta Tikkanen, writer and philosopher. Robert was a well-known architect, who worked mainly in Helsinki. As a sports shooter he participated in two Olympics. At the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics he won a silver medal in team running deer, single shot and a bronze medal in the team running deer, double shot. In 1924 Tikkanen won another bronze medal in the team clay pigeon shooting at the Games in Paris.
