Jari Isometsä won most of his international championships medals in relay. He won silvers in relay at the 1995 and 1997 World Championships and bronzes in relay at the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Olympics and 1991 World Championships. His only individual medal, a bronze, came in pursuit at the 1995 World Championships. Isometsä also competed at the 2001 World Championships and finished second in pursuit, but was later disqualified for doping by taking hydroxyetyhl starch, a blood plasma expander. After serving his two-year suspension, Isometsä made a comeback in 2003, but less successfully and retired in 2006 after he was not selected to the Finnish Olympic team. Isometsä later worked as a sales manager for the football club FC Honka.
