Carson Foster first made swimming headlines when he broke Michael Phelps' Under-10 100m butterfly national record.

Born in 2001, the Cincinnati native dominated the 2019 World Junior Championships with four gold medals and a silver, including victory in the 200m individual medley.

His good form rolled over into the senior ranks at the 2021 and 2022 short course world championships, where he won silver medals in the 200m IM (twice) and 400 IM.

Foster put an impressive shift in at the 2022 long course world championships in Budapest, where he won silver in the 200m and 400m IM before helping Team USA to gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.

The University of Texas graduate's 400m IM time ranked him eighth all-time, and sets him up for a brilliant rivalry with French world champion Leon Marchand ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Foster is also one of his nation's most versatile swimmers, with the fourth best time in the world for the 200m butterfly in 2022, as well as the sixth best 200m backstroke time.
