Discus thrower Anita Otto placed an unfortunate fourth at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, missing out on a medal by half-a-metre. At the 1966 European Championships she won a bronze medal, and she won East German titles in 1965 and 1966. Otto was educated as a typesetter but later worked as a school teacher. In 2003, she founded “Gib Gummi 03 Berlin,” a rubber boot throwing club, and organized the World Championships in rubber boot throwing. Otto also became vice-president of the International Boot Throwing Association – IBTA.
