Biografia

Ville Tuulos was the best Finnish long and triple jumper of the 1920s. Tuulos won the Olympic triple jump gold in 1920, while taking bronzes in 1924 and 1928. He also finished fourth in the long jump at the 1924 Olympics. During his career, Tuulos set two European triple jump records, first in 1919 with 15.30 and in 1923 he improved to 15.48, a mark only four centimetres shorter than the world record owned by Dan Ahearn of America. His second European record lasted over 16 years until it was bettered by Kaare Strøm of Norway in 1939. Domestically, Tuulos won 12 Finnish titles, nine in the triple jump (1919-25, 1927-28), two in the long jump (1921, 1923) and one in the high jump (1923).

Personal Bests: LJ – 7.31 (1923); TJ – 15.48 (1923).
