Biografia

East German sprinter Siegfried Schenke came in sixth in the 200 and fifth with the sprint relay at the 1972 München Olympics. At the 1974 European Championships he won a bronze medal with the sprint relay. Three years earlier he came in fourth in both the 100 and 200 metres. In 1970 Schenke won the European Cup at 200 metres, was runner-up in the 100, but won that event in 1973. Schenke won German titles in the 100 and 200 in 1970, the 100 in 1971, and at 200 metres in 1972. He was also a proficient long jumper. In 1970 Schenke set a European record of 10.0 for the 100 metres. Trained as a sports teacher, in 1990 he became employed by the Thuringia Athletes Association as a coach and educator.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.0 (1973); 200 – 20.2 (1973).
