Biografia

In 1981, Paul Wylie won the US and World Junior titles in singles skating. He was also skating pairs at the time with Dana Graham, with whom he won the 1979 US Junior pairs title, but after 1981 he concentrated on singles. When his coaches re-located to Boston, Wylie moved there as well. He continued to skate but also enrolled at Harvard in 1986, graduating in 1991. Wylie never won a national title, placing second at the US Championships in 1988, 1990, and 1992. He competed at three World Championships, in 1988, 1990, and 1991, with a best placement of ninth in 1988. With that background in senior international skating, he was not considered a contender for a medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics, but in a major upset came through for the silver. Wylie turned professional after his Olympic medal, winning the 1992 US Open Professional Championship, and the 1993 World Professional Championship. He skated professionally from 1992-98, winning four titles at the Challenge of Champions, and then returned to Harvard, this time for business school. He has since worked in the corporate world and coaches figure skaters near his home in Charlotte. In 1999, he married Kate Presbrey, a former ice hockey goalie at Brown.
