Martina ERTL-RENZ

Martina Ertl-Renz started at five consecutive Winter Olympic Games from 1992-2006, winning two silvers and one bronze medal. Her Olympic career started with a disappointing 15th place 1992 at Albertville. Two years later she earned her first medal at Lillehammer in the giant slalom, adding a fourth place in the downhill and a fifth in alpine combined. In 1998 she managed another silver in the combined and missed the podium in the slalom and the giant slalom, placing fourth. In 2002 she added another bronze medal in the combined and had a fifth place in the slalom. In her last Olympics at Torino her seventh place in the combined was her best result.

Her brother Andreas was also an internationally successful alpine skier. Together with him, she won a World Team Championships medal in 2005, the first time the event was held. She also won the combined at the 2001 World Championships at St. Anton and had two third places in the giant slalom in 1993 and 1996. In 1996 and 1998 Ertl-Renz won the overall giant slalom World Cup, was runner-up in the overall World Cup, and she won 14 World Cup races adding 43 other podium finishes in her career. Domestically she won five slalom titles, seven in the giant slalom and one in the Super-G.

Her husband was a former triathlete, Sven Renz. In 2005 she was awarded the Bavarian sports award. At times, she comments on skiing World Cup races for German TV channels. She and her husband also run a sports shop for running and skiing shoes at Munich.
