Kjetil André Aamodt is the most decorated alpine skier in Olympic history, and among the most successful and versatile skiers in history. He excelled at the Olympics and World Championships, winning four Olympic titles and 5 World Championships, and 20 medals overall. During his extraordinarily long career (1989 to 2006), he won 20 World Cups, at least one in each of the five alpine events. In 1994, he won the overall World Cup, and he added eight more World Cup titles, including five in the Combined. His career seemed over when he sustained a serious ankle injury in 2003, forcing him to miss the 2003/2004 season. Coming back the following year, he only won one more major race: the 2006 Olympic Super G.
