Ivar STUKOLKIN

Ivar Stukolkin is considered to be the greatest Estonian swimmer. Stukolkin took up the sport when he was seven and made the Soviet national team in 1978. During his career, Stukolkin competed at the 1980 Olympics, two World Championships (1978, 1982), and two European Championships (1981, 1983). His most successful meet was the 1980 Olympics, where he won gold in the 4x200 freestyle relay and bronze in the 400 free. At the 1982 World Championships Stukolkin won silver in the 4x200 free relay. Domestically, at the Soviet championships, Stukolkin won one Soviet title (1978 in the 4x200 freestyle relay), three silver medals (1979 400 free, 1982 200 free, and 1983 4x200 free relay), and bronze for times (1981/83 4x100 free relay, 1982 400 free, and 1983 200 free). He also won 26 Estonian SSR titles between 1976 and 1985. After finishing his sporting career in 1985, Stukolkin worked as a swimming coach in Estonia until 1991. From 1991-94 Stukolkin was the deputy director of the cleaning service company Vare and, from 1994-2000, was the head of port of the Tallinn customs office. In 2005 Stukolkin became a board member of reinforced concrete products factory Lasbet and, since 2007, has been a board member of IT companies BeeServer and www24. From 2006-08 Stukolkin was the president of the Estonian Olympians Association.

Personal Best: 100 m freestyle – 52.60 (1983); 200 m freestyle – 1:51.93 (1982); 400 m freestyle – 3:53.95 (1980).
