Biografia

Deepika KUMARI

Deepika Kumari is one of the greatest archery talents ever to emerge from India and will be taking aim at an Olympic medal when she takes part in her third Games at Tokyo 2020.

Kumari was born on June 13, 1994, in Ranchi, and target practice was a skill she honed from an early age, as she took to throwing stones at mangoes hanging from trees.

With her family having limited means, she had to initially make do with self-made bows put together with bamboo sticks. However, with some help from cousin Vidya Kumari - a student at the Tata Archery Academy - she was soon on the right track.

Kumari first came to global attention when she won the Cadet World Championship in 2009. That same year, she also won the 11th Youth World Archery Championship in Ogden, USA.
