Cyril Dugmore was the winner of the Army high jump for officers eight times and the long jump seven times and the Midland Counties champion in both events in 1907. He was also the Irish 120y hurdles champion in 1912. On leaving school, Dugmore was commissioned into the RASC and fought in the Boer War. In World War I he saw action on the Western Front and he was later involved in propaganda and recruitment duties in the USA. After the war he served as the secretary of a golf club in New York, but in 1931 he turned to take over as secretary of Wimbledon Park GC.
