Christine Goitschel recorded the second best time of the first run, only lying 76 hundredths behind her sister Marielle.

Christine prevailed in the second run and earned the gold medal, while Marielle took the silver medal. That same day, back in France, their younger sister, Patricia, won a national junior title. Two days later, in the giant slalom competition, Christine and Marielle reversed positions, with Marielle winning the gold medal and Christine the silver medal.
