Sophia is an Olympic alpine skier who competed at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games together with her brother, and was Cyprus' flagbearer during the closing ceremony. She is a medical doctor and surgical resident, yet remains engaged in sports and the Olympic Movement. She has contributed to the Athlete365 Space at the Winter Games in PyeongChang 2018 and was appointed member of the World Sailing Medical Commission. In her free time she volunteers for the Cyprus Girls Can campaign. Her dream is to see a bi-communal Cypriot team march into the Olympic Games under one flag.

PROJECT

Winds of Change

Winds of Change aims to create a unique, and life changing bi-communal sailing experience for a young team of Cypriots (Greek and Turkish speaking). Following a series of leadership workshops and a sailing camp, the team will be faced with the challenge to sail around the divided island together on one boat. Overcoming this challenge will make them the first Cypriot team to circumnavigate around Cyprus and will allow them to develop a unique bond. The project is to be filmed as a documentary in order to inspire more people to utilise sport as a peace catalyst in Cyprus and to promote peace globally.
