Youth Olympic Games – a look back at 2012

Just two years after experiencing the biggest sporting stage of their lives at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, almost 200 athletes flew the YOG flag in London to compete in front of the eyes of the world.  As for the YOG fans, you were cheering at every step of the journey!

Who can forget the ecstatic scenes in the aquatics centre as South Africa’s Chad le Clos claimed gold over his idol, Youth Olympic Games Ambassador Michael Phelps, in the 200m butterfly? Or when Jade Jones of Team GB powered her way to a defining victory in the 57kg taekwondo final to the roars of a home crowd? Or that magnificent run which saw Jessica Fox live up to her nickname “The Flying Fox” and secure silver in the women’s kayak (K1).

And that is just a glimpse of the 16 days of competition!  Check out the video to view more of the action.

What a year it has been for all the Youth Olympic Games athletes from winter to summer!  We can’t wait to catch up with the YOG alumni in 2013 as they continue their sporting careers, not to mention all the athletes preparing for the next edition of the Summer YOG, Nanjing 2014, and those aiming for the next Olympic Winter Games of Sochi 2014!
