YOG 3x3 legacy as told by rising basketball star Marko Ramljak
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were not only the first edition of the YOG event itself, they were also a first for 3x3 basketball, which made a successful debut on the international stage and left a lasting impression.
20 years-old Croatian Marko Ramljak would know. He was a 3x3 silver medallist in Singapore, and following the Youth Olympic Games, went on to play for his country at the first-ever 3x3 U18 World Championships organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 2011.
While Marko has not had the opportunity to compete in a 3x3 competition since then, the young basketball player was keen to share in an interview with FIBA his enthusiasm for this “up-tempo” style of play which forces you “to think quickly and improvise a lot when you only have 12 seconds to score.”
The YOG medallist also talked about the “almost indescribable” experience of the YOG, saying: “I remember I was not sure if I should go but now I know how much I would have missed. The organisation was great. It was such a big event and 3x3 was a big part of it.”
