World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024: Australia's Maddison Keeney and Domonic Bedggood claim mixed 3m synchronised world title
Keeney and Bedggood won from Chiara Pellacani and Matteo Santoro of Italy with Republic of Korea's Kim Su-ji and Yi Jaeg-yeong taking bronze.
Maddison Keeney and Domonic Bedggood won gold for Australia in the mixed 3m synchronised springboard diving final at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships on Saturday (10 February).
Last year's silver medallists went one better in the Qatari capital with a total score of 300.93 to earn Australia their second diving gold of these championships following Alysha Koloi's 1m springboard success.
It was Keeney's third world title having won this event with Matthew Carter in 2019, and individual 1m springboard gold in 2017.
The Australians took control of the competition thanks to a fine inward two-and-a-half somersault with pike in round three.
Going into the final round, they led Grace Reid and Ross Haslam by just over five points. But a poor last dive from the Britons ended their medal hopes.
With a tariff of 3.4, the Australians' closing twisting forward two-and-a-half somersault with pike was the most difficult dive in the competition.
And they made no mistake, earning marks ranging from 6.0 to 7.5 to secure a comfortable victory.
Chiara Pellacani and Matteo Santoro of Italy took silver with a total of 287.49, just ahead of Republic of Korea's Kim Su-ji and Yi Jaeg-yeong on 285.03.
Reid and Haslam finished fourth with 278.28.
