As 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of Olympic Day, this year the International Olympic Committee is celebrating through United By, which recognises the people who make sport happen every day for themselves, their families, friends and communities.
To celebrate the power of the Olympic values - Excellence, Friendship and Respect - in every part of life to deliver a better world now and for generations to come, we have released our United By video. The video seeks to define Olympism and to highlight that it is more than the Games, and more than Olympians. It is a philosophy of life that brings together sport, culture and education for the benefit of humanity.
United By also shows the world the role that the Olympic Movement can play in opening the door to peace, and how sport can build bridges and bring people together. This was never more apparent than the coming together of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games.
To continue raising awareness of Olympism, we are also launching our first Olympism in Action Forum (OiAF) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 5 and 6 October 2018. The OiAF will bring together stakeholders across the Olympic Movement and society at large to open new dialogues, discuss global challenges, and share innovative experiences and inspiring stories to further mobilise sport to create a better world. To learn more about the Olympism in Action Forum, please visit our section here.
If you would like to get involved in the conversation, we’d love to hear from you! Tell us what Olympism means to you and what you’re United By, using the relevant hashtags and sharing your favourite Olympic and sport moments, all in an effort to help spread the Olympic values and define Olympism.
We are United By qualities that transcend borders, qualities that make us human.
