IOC News

Phase two of ticket sales for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad, taking place in Athens next year between 13 and 29 August, starts on 1 October 2003.

The sales are now open for citizens of the European Union and the European Economic Area. Tickets are available for most events, although some, however, are sold out.

Several events sold out
Although there are, for the moment, no more tickets available for the Opening Ceremony, the Organising Committee, ATHOC, has announced that for the Closing Ceremony, B price category tickets can still be purchased. For specific events the situation differs according to the sport. For example, out of a total of 16 athletics competition periods, tickets can be bought for all of them with the exception of one (26 August from 7.30 to 10.30 p.m.): the men’s 400m hurdles and 200m finals. The men’s basketball semi-finals are sold out, whereas tickets for the final are still available. Tickets for swimming qualifying events are still being offered, although the evening finals are sold out.

1.6 million tickets sold
Ticket orders so far total 1,671,000, equivalent to a value of €120 million. Of this, €40 million represents ticket sales to the general public, and €80 million ticket sales to ATHOC's contractual partners such as sponsors, National Olympic Committees, International Sports Federations, rights-holding broadcasters and the IOC.

First-come, first-served
Methods of payment include the possibility of paying with a VISA credit card. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first served basis. Seating assignments will be made in Spring 2004, once the construction of all competition venues is complete. Tickets will be available for collection in June 2004. Residents from abroad will be sent their tickets by post at the address they have indicated.
