They might be opponents on the field of play, but Olympic medallists Tom Daley and Qiu Bo put their rivalry to one side this week and came together for the first time ever to dive as a pair in celebration of the unifying power of sport.
The 10m platform divers, who also competed against each other in the first Youth Olympic Games, in 2010 in Singapore, wowed the crowd at the special event held in Shanghai, China, by performing a spectacular never-before-seen synchronised 10m platform dive!
The young Olympians also took the time to teach some basic diving skills to students from the local British International School during the day, which was hosted by the British Consul General, Brian Davidson.
Tom, who won bronze at the London 2012 Games, said: “I wanted to share my happiness after winning a medal at the London Olympics to the students on-site; and I hope that my experience of London 2012 can inspire my peers to pursue their dream and never give up.”
London 2012 silver medallist Qiu Bo added: “I am very pleased to be able to meet in Shanghai with Daley. Today we are not opponents, but instead working together to promote the Sino-British sports exchanges in Shanghai. I wish for long friendship between our two peoples.”
China will host the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, in 2014.
