Given the resort’s relative lack of hotels at the time, the construction of an Olympic Village was deemed necessary to accommodate the athletes, officials and journalists attending the Olympic Winter Games. Comprising four three-storey buildings offering a capacity of 1,200, the centrally located Olympic Village also featured a multi-purpose Athletes’ Centre. It lay within walking distance of all the competition venues, with the exception of McKinney Creek Stadium (cross-country skiing and biathlon).

The Village was used as a hotel after the Games and then as a training centre by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). High operating costs forced the USOC to vacate the Olympic Village in 1980. Its apartments were converted into modern timeshare condominiums shortly afterwards and it now operates as the Olympic Village Inn, providing accommodation to the resort’s visitors. Renamed Olympic House, the Athletes’ Centre remains an integral part of the village and is home to a bar and a bakery.
